Necessary cookies keep the site working and remember your choices. Analytics stays off unless you switch it on. If you do, the data goes to Google LLC in the US, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with standard contractual clauses as a fallback. Cookie policy

  • NecessaryAlways on

    Always on. They remember your cookie choice, your language and display settings, and protect forms from bots. No ads, no cross-site tracking.

  • Analytics

    Counts visits and which pages and buttons are used, through Google Analytics. Google receives page and device details and an approximate location from your IP address; Google Analytics does not store the IP. Cookies: _ga and _ga_N0QT2EQSJT, 6 months. Off unless you switch it on.

Cookie policy

[TO CONFIRM: launch date]

This page explains what me.app stores on your device, what is sent to others, and how to change your mind. The site is run by N.F.O Software Development Ltd (company no. 515017382), the company behind Me. Here we call it "NFO Ltd" or "we".

The short version

  • We use one optional thing: Google Analytics, to see how the site is used. It stays off until you choose, and the site works the same either way.
  • Everything else we store is there to make the site work or to remember a choice you made.
  • No advertising cookies. No tracking pixels. No third-party fonts or libraries.
  • You can change your choice any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.

Necessary: always on

These keep the site working and remember what you chose. Most of them are written only when you do something: pick a language, switch to dark mode, like a post. Some last only until you close the tab.

They remember:

  • your cookie choice, so we don't ask on every page (6 months);
  • your language, if you picked one yourself (1 year), and language suggestions you dismissed (6 months);
  • display settings you chose on this device: dark mode, accessibility settings, a collapsed download panel;
  • posts you liked and FAQ answers you rated, so the buttons show your earlier choice;
  • an unfinished support message (message and topic only) for 7 days, so closing the page by accident does not lose it. Your email and phone are saved only if you tick "remember me", and unticking deletes them at once;
  • short notes that end when you close the tab, such as a cached language suggestion.

Analytics: only with your permission

If you switch analytics on, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC.

It sets two cookies on this site, _ga and _ga_N0QT2EQSJT. They last 6 months.

What Google receives:

  • which page you viewed (its address without any search terms), its language and its type;
  • clicks on some buttons (app store links, download, opening an FAQ answer, changing language, sending a business form) and how far you scrolled. The contents of a form are never sent;
  • your device and browser type;
  • an approximate location, which Google works out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address.

What is never sent: your name, phone number, email address, or anything you type into a form.

Advertising features are off. No ad cookies, no ad personalisation.

Google keeps analytics data for 14 months.

What the analytics category stores

NameTypeSet byPurposeDuration
_gaCookieGoogleTells visits apart for Google Analytics6 months

me-inviteLocal storageThis siteCounts visits, so the app invitation does not appear on your first visit. Written only if you switched analytics onUntil you clear it

reCAPTCHA on some forms

The spam check, the opt-out form and the business forms (Me Business Plus and the Me API request form) are protected from bots by reCAPTCHA, which Google runs on our behalf. It loads only when you start filling in one of those forms, never on page view.

When it loads, Google receives your IP address and information about your browser, and may read its own cookies on google.com. We use it only to tell people from bots.

Notifications

Only if you subscribe to notifications in your browser, the site registers a small script on your device (/me-push-sw.js) so updates can reach you.

Our server then keeps what is needed to send them: the browser's push address and its keys, your language, your browser and device type, your country, and the page you subscribed from. When you unsubscribe, this is deleted within 90 days.

To stop, turn notifications off for me.app in your browser settings.

Counting on our own server

We count, on our own server, how many times each article is viewed, liked or shared. We keep totals only, not who did what.

To stop one visitor being counted over and over, the server briefly keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address, for at most one day. It is not used for anything else.

We count page views on our own server, without cookies and without storing your IP address or any identifier, only to know how many people visit the site. Don't count my visits

Where the data goes

Analytics and reCAPTCHA data goes to Google LLC in the United States. The transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses as a fallback.

Changing your mind

  • Use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page, or the button at the top of this page. Switching analytics off deletes the analytics cookies at once.
  • Saying no costs nothing. The site works the same.
  • If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a no to analytics, and the settings window says so.
  • You can also delete everything this site stored through your browser's settings. We will then ask you again.

We ask again after 6 months, or sooner if this policy changes in a way that needs a new choice. If you said no, we will not ask again for 6 months.

For visitors in Japan

Under Japan's Telecommunications Business Act, we tell you when information about you is sent to another company:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC), only if you switch analytics on: the page you viewed, button clicks, scroll depth, device and browser type, and an identifier stored in the _ga cookies, to measure how the site is used.
  • reCAPTCHA (Google LLC), only when you start filling in a protected form: your IP address and browser information, to tell people from bots.
